Fifth Ward Houston, also known as “The Bloody Nickel”, is notorious for it’s dangerous environment. However, there is a sliver of light in the midst of this dark area: The Last Organic Outpost.
This is an established local community that aims to generate sustainable agriculture. They envision seeding an Urban Agricultural District that cultivates the region’s food and supports local farmers to thrive despite economic, environmental, health and social challenges.
Take a little piece of the Last Organic Outpost home with you to grow an oasis of your own. Next time you come to visit the farm, you will receive a half dozen of organic eggs. These are packaged in 100% natural seed paper. Instructions for creating your own garden are embedded in the carton.
This is the Last Organic Outpost. Making a difference, one seed at a time.
Last Organic Outpost focuses it’s efforts on the neglected 5th Ward food desert with these objectives: Outreach, Farming & Education. Through these values, I expanded a system that would reflect the culture and environment.
